XPI or also XPInstall (CROSS Platform Install; Discussion: zippy) of the Mozilla Foundation are developed file format for installation files.

This technology used around extensions, which increase the function range of the program to install. Programs such as Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird or further XUL based applications use XPI.

A XPI file is a ZIP container, this contains a Installationsscript (install.rdf; in former times install.js) and other files.
