XDCC ("“Xabi DCC"”) was at the beginning of a Script for ircii, which was written 1994 by Xabi. This Script expands ircii the DCC instruction.

Nowadays XDCC refers to IRC Bots, which implements file servers. XDCC Bots usually offer one or more large files for the Download over the DCC to minutes. The targeted applications are not exclusively limited to illegal contents, as e.g. MP3s or Warez, which can be indicated thereby and accordingly also downloaded, become however this predominantly offered. There are also groups, which offer legal Downloads in their Channels in the IRC.

Often Warez groups use connections with high Upstreamgeschwindigkeiten, in order to be able to spread their releases (usually RSR-compressed ISO images, with other files together than a Tar file to be packed) fast.
