WEB.DE is a German Internet portal, which is at present started as editorialally cared for web page catalog and according to data of the WEB.DE GmbH with approximately 300 topic areas covers 21 Sub portals as well as offers numerous services. With a range from over 10 million Internet users (Agof) WEB.DE the second largest Internet portal is monthly in Germany.

The portal celebrated 2005 its anniversary and since the sales at United Internet in October 2005 of the WEB.DE GmbH is operated, a 100 percent subsidiary of the United Internet AG. The WEB.DE AG as an old owner firmiert now under the designation ComBOTS AG and concentrates according to own data in the future on the development and marketing of a comprehensive communication product.

A course horse of the portal is the free and several times distinguished E-Mail service FreeMail. The WEB.DE AG works with Unified Messaging, the Premiumversion of the E-Mail service in the WEB.DE club, a VoIP service (FreePhone) and an integrated exchange and Messagingsoftware (Com.Win) also within the range of telecommunications. For this the WEB.DE AG was assigned to first enterprise its own country widely valid telephone preselection (01212) as according to own data.

If the portal was still completely free at the beginning, then becomes in the meantime apart from incomes from advertising and Shopkooperationen tries to earn with services such as Lotto and photo development money. For the WEB.DE Telekommunikationsprodukte and in the meantime also services of external partners its own Micropayment and premium system were developed named Web cent.

History

The brothers Michael and Matthias Greve created the Cinetic media technics GmbH - an enterprise, which itself with cinema and technology busy. From this 1999 the WEB.DE AG was separated. In the year 2005 the WEB.DE AG sold its portal to the United Internet AG and designated themselves after conclusion of the transaction in comBOTS AG over. The mark WEB.DE with all portal and Internet services remains and becomes part of the United Internet of company. For the customers nothing is to change according to statements of the enterprise.

1995 went the Internet listing with 2.500 editorialally worked on entries on-line. In the following years the portal was extended by further services, whereby some (like a Trustcenter for not Freemail addresses) it was also reset. In October 2002 the WEB.DE AG with a product announced named Com.Win to revolutionize the telephone. The product is continued to develop in the future under the name comBOTS. In May 2005 the Federal Cartel Office approved the assumption of the Internet portal business of the WEB.DE AG by the United Internet AG. In July 2005 a Wikipedia search started. With effect to 31 October 2005 the United Internet AG and WEB.DE AG carried out the announced transaction. With immediate effect the former WEB.DE AG in comBOTS AG designated itself over, the conversion of the stock exchange contraction took place in December 2005.
