Slrn is a text-based newsreader, which was originally developed for unixoide operating systems. Meanwhile it is available in addition, for other operating systems, like Microsoft Windows, VMS, OS/2.

Slrn was originally written to Davis by John E. The abbreviation stands for "“S-long READ news"”. S-long the interpreter language is based on slrn. It runs on the console and is characterised by the fact that it is variously configurable. It can be configured with the script language S-long.

Slrn is open SOURCE software.
