The term sitation is used in the Webometrie as synonym for hyper+on the left of in the Internet. It serves for it, the structural comparability from left (thus references in the Internet) and quotation ions (thus references in scientific publications; English: to express "“citation"”), which belong in the Bibliometrie to the central data sources.

Ronald Rousseau took over 1997 the term "“sitation"” from Gary McKiernan and help it temporary popularity in webometrischen publications. The idea stood to be able to transfer bibliometrische procedures like the quotation ion analysis to the World Wide Web. The analogy of hyper+on the left of and quotation ions was however from the beginning disputed, since the Web exhibits other characteristics and broader variety of documents contains than in the Bibliometrie used, exclusively on scientific technical periodicals which are based quotation ion data bases.

Therefore the term becomes in the meantime only rarely related within the Webometrie; outside of the specialized knowledge shank it is completely uncommon.
