ricardo.de is an Internet auction house and a former competitor of eBay in Germany. The share of the ricardo.de AG is noted under the WKN 702070 at the Frankfurt stock exchange. In November 2000 the British QXL acquired ricardo PLC qxl.co.uk approx. 90% of the capital stock at the ricardo.de AG. Since then ricardo.de belongs to the acting QXL ricardo group.

Differently than ebay ricardo.de concentrated not from the beginning alone on the enterprise of a market place, but started starting from the year 1998 first with a large-scale self-trade with branded articles, which were driven out to the highest bid. Here formed ricardo.de itself among other things with live moderated auctions ("“ricardo live"”). This business brought in ricardo.de rapidly a high admittingness and popularity, however at the same time high economic losses.

Therefore ricardo.de starting from the spring 2001 concentrated alone on the enterprise of the market place section, which was started already in the spring 1999 under the designation "“ricardo private"”, however up to then only as the third by altogether three sales formats positioned were. However ricardo.de its market place could not state against the already very strong market position of ebay successfully in Germany at longer term. In November 2003 on-line auction market place was finally adjusted and the Domain www.ricardo.de used up to then was limited rented. Up-to-date a ricardo.de price comparison for branded articles under the side operates www.ricardo24.de. Over the 100%-ige subsidiary company ricardo.ch AG www.ricardo.ch operates ricardo.de however further Internet auctions in Switzerland (see below). With the success of the there business ricardo.de meanwhile also the jump succeeded into the operational profit area.
