The Project good mountain (shortened PG) is a library of free electronic versions of physically existing books resident in the Internet, often E-texts mentioned. Beyond that the library contains also acoustic media and data. Most there available files are in the public domain (common property), because they were occupied with a copyright either never (in Germany is however legally impossible) or because the copyright ran out meanwhile. Besides some files are to be found, which under a copyright, whose authors and/or author gave however their agreement for the admission with the PG.
Michael hard started the project 1971. It bears its name after the German printer Johannes good mountain, in 15. Century in Europe the printing with mobile type characters had invented.
Corpus consists in the majority of English-language works, in addition, anderssprachige works are taken up with the PG. Beside the works of human authors the decoded Genom of the human Genome of project can be called up since November 2002. Beside writing works there are, acoustically noted books also read out.
All files of the Project good mountain can be downloaded and further-distributed in principle free of charge; regarding the far distribution the restriction only exists that the unchanged (English unaltered) text link the Project good mountain up exhibit must. If the further-distributed text should have been changed, it may not be called good mountain text. The legal estimate of the legality is based however on the basis of US-American laws; Project good mountain refers to expressly on it that the copyright of the respective country, in which the user lives can be decisive.
Until M%C3%A4rz 2006 published the project more than 18,000 works; the work was carried out almost completely by Freiwilligen - and the work continues. In the last years a majority of the published works was provided by Distributed Proofreaders.
