On and Mail Relay (ODMR) or Authenticated TURN (ATRN) is an extension for E-Mail minutes Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (smtp). ODMR is defined in RFC 2645.
ODMR is a E-Mail service, which permits it to users to fetch after appropriate Authentifizierung their enamels with an Internet service Provider (ISP) over dynamic IP addresses.
Contrary to POP3 the E-Mail which can be fetched is dispatched including the smtp Envelopes, which is important for the allocation to a receiver.
The Client connects itself with the ODMR server and authentifiziert themselves. It queries all enamels for its Domain. Afterwards Client and servers exchange the roles, which become enamels over the existing TCP connection by smtp transferred.
This method is interesting for users, who do not have a dedicated line in Internet, but the entrance to the Internet for example over DSL or ISDN receive.
In contrast to it during an existing dedicated line ETRN one uses.
ODMR servers are already integrated in some MTAs (e.g. In addition, ALT-N MDaemon and Microsoft Exchange server), it gives extensions for usual Unix MTAs such as Sendmail, Exim, post office-fixed and qmail.
As ODMR Client can be used for example fetchmail. Example of a configuration in fetchmail:
polling odmr.mailserver.de proto odmr: user "user name" password "password" fetchdomains "domainname.de"
In the case of use under Unix it is here important that into of /etc/services the network of haven are configured:
odmr 366/tcp # odmr odmr 366/udp # odmr
otherwise an Socket error message is spent.
Example of a typical ODMR connection:
> 220 EXAMPLE.NET on that and mail relay server ready < EHLO example.org > 250-EXAMPLE.NET > 250-AUTH CRAM-MD5 eXternal > 250 ATRN < AUTH CRAM-MD5 > 334 MTg5Ni42OTcxNzA5NTJASVNQLkNPTQo= < Zm9vYmFyLm5ldCBiOTEzYTYwMmM3ZWRhN2E0OTViNGU2ZTczMzRkMzg5MAo= > 235 now authenticated as example.org < ATRN example.org, example.com > 250 OK ONE now reversing the connection < 220 example.org ready ton receive email > EHLO < 250-example.org < 250 SIZE > MAIL FROM EXAMPLE.NET: <LESTER.TESTER@DOT.FOO.BAR> < 250 OK ONE > RCPT TON: <l.eva.msg@example.com> < 250 OK ONE, accepted" > QUIT recipient < 221 example.org closing connection
