NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) is the transmission protocol used in the Usenet. Its specifications were specified in the RFC 977 (February 1986). Some extensions of standard minutes were held in RFC 2980 (October 2000). The message format is defined in the RFC 1036 (December 1987). The IANA assigned the TCP haven 119 to minutes.
NNTP is text-based and plans alternating inquiries of the Clients and whereupon the following answers of the server. These answers contain a first line with a numeric status code - a three-figure integer, which informs about the success of the command - and large information, as a function of the inquiry. In addition in some cases additional lines follow, always terminated by a line with an individual point.
The original specification of 1986 defines already sufficiently many commands, in order to make communication possible between servers and Client. This section presents the most important commands.
