Netsplit is a term from the Internet Relay Chat and designates a Verbindungsunterbrechnung within an IRC network, with which this disintegrates into at least two independent subnetwork works.
For the users in a subnetwork work it seems, as if the users in each case of the different part the net were left. A user leaves the network due to a Netsplits * nods Quit (hub.*.* server.*.*) or a similar message spent.
A cause can be local, often also only brief one, server or connecting losses. In rare cases Netsplits are planned in addition, for example if maintenance work at servers is made. Netsplits are not thus usually intended, even if this is every now and then accepted. In case of a Netsplits then the servers try depending upon configuration independently to restore the connection to the separate server. In the case of a long-term disturbance it can also be that the IRC operators of the IRC network must restore the connection manually.
In large networks the probability of Netsplits increases, since these consist of a larger number of servers and connections between the servers.
