Mycroft is an extended form of the Sherlock specification of Apple. It describes the structure that the Mycroft look for Plugins and in consequence its also as designation of the look for Plugins is used.

Function mode

The Mycroft look for Plugins can be installed either directly over web page with a Javascript or be downloaded on the PC and be copied by hand into the appropriate listing of the Webbrowsers. Once installed, the user can use this Plugins, in order to access directly of the Browser a search machine, without having to enter their URL for the time being into the address array. On the one hand search machines can such as Google or Yahoo! with this Plugins to be addressed directly. On the other hand also searches can be accomplished directly with Amazon or Ebay. Also many Plugins are available for smaller web pages, on-line dictionaries, directories, Wikis etc.

Browser

Mycroft look for Plugins can be used by Mozilla based Browsern such as Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape (starting from version 7), and Beonex.

This Browser offers either directly in the menu border (e.g. Mozilla Firefox) an input field on, over which directly with the up-to-date selected look for Plugin can be searched. In other Browsern as in the Mozilla Browser the look for Plugins can be used over the Sidebar, in which an edited version of the search results is indicated then immediately.

Programming

The look for Plugins consists of of a text file with the ending .src and optionally a Icon file, which a Icon in the format 16x16 pixel must contain. Graphics can one of the file endings .jpg, .gif in the JPEG, GIF or png format be present and must accordingly or .png carry.
