Mozilla Thunderbird [] is an open SOURCE E-Mail program and a newsreader of the Mozilla Foundation.

The program be based on the source text of the Mozilla Suite and is among other things available for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris and OS/2.

Characteristics

Spam filter

The program uses an adaptive Spam filter on basis of the bayesschen filter, whereby after a short learning phase the hit rate is already very high and usually continues to rise with continuing use.

Security

Mozilla Thunderbird supports safety components like electronic signature, message coding and certificates.

In addition an GnuPG/PGP extension with the name Enigmail for the program is available, with which one can code and digitally mark enamels also with PGP keys. GnuPG is particularly common under the Linux users and open SOURCE trailers far and is contained with most Linux distributions in the standard installation.

HTML enamel

For the HTML representation of the enamels, three modes are to the user at the disposal. With first the original expenditure for HTML is indicated. The second mode limits the expenditure for HTML only to all all this, all potenziell dangerous HTML elements is filtered. And the latter completely switches HTML off, i.e. only pure text is indicated to the respective message. Thunderbird is adjusted according to standard to the first representation mode - original expenditure for HTML.

Virtual files

Virtual files show all messages, which correspond to defined search criteria before (similarly "„the labels "“of Gmail). In order to get e.g. all messages of a certain sender from all files indicated, one provides uniquely a search of all messages of this sender - this search can be stored then as virtual files. The messages always remain contrary to filters at their original place. Nevertheless one can open now this virtual file at any time, and all appropriate messages are indicated immediately, although these actually lie in different files.

Several identities

Mozilla Thunderbird supports the separate administration of several POP3 and IMAP accounts. Alternatively all POP3-Konten can be summarized in a global Inbox. Also several directories can be led.

Further characteristics

The user surface of Thunderbird can be adapted with Themes to the own needs. An integrated RSS Lesewerkzeug is available. By Quick search are to more possibilities at the disposal to find from the main window certain enamels.
