Minimo (short for "mini Mozilla ") is a project, in order to make a version available of the Mozilla Browsers for small devices such as PDAs and mobile telephones. The project has also the goal of making it easier for developers to embed parts of Mozilla into systems with limited resources (for example devices with little RAM).
In order to minimize necessary resources, contain Minimo no functions as for instance support for ftp. Additionally the Browser uses small screen rendering technology, in order to transform web pages for displays in the pocket size. The user surface is likewise in such a way arranged that only little place on the display is used.
At present the Minimo development has itself on devices with arm processors (e.g. iPAQ) with approximately 64 MT RAM concentrates.
A version of Minimo for Windows CE is also in development. The first version for the pocket PC was made accessible in February 2005.
The prominent Minimo developers are Doug Turner and Chris Hofmann, which care for the project since the introduction. The Mozilla Foundation employed Turner in December 2004, in full time at Minimo to work (Hofmann works also for the Mozilla Foundation, has however different obligations). Minimo was brought by Nokia into being.
