MLDonkey is a free software written in the programming language Objective CAML, in order to access different exchange stock exchanges.

At present supported file sharing services are:

• EDonkey2000
• Overnet
• Gnutella
• Gnutella2
• Nearly TRACK (KaZaA)
• BitTorrent
• Kademlia

In addition also HTTP and Ftp Downloads with MLDonkey can be accomplished.

MLDonkey is developed particularly for Unix based systems (GNU/Linux, various BSDs, Mac OS X/Darwin), however also a Windows Portierung exists.

One of the large differences compared with comparable applications of software such as Kazaa or Lopster is the strict separation into a core application (core), which makes actual functionality available, and which interaction with the user. For this three different minutes are available:

• HTTP - Is possible for that access by means of a Webbrowsers on a Web interface.
• Telnet - The core can be steered completely over telnet.
• own MLDonkey GUI minutes - exists various GUI Clients, which makes the access possible.

This separation is in particular attractive, in order to steer the core from another computer. Only one connection (by means of one of the three variants specified) must be developed around commands to set off. To the Download is not necessary a connection from the user interface to the MLDonkey core.

MLDonkey can refer and offer the same file there at the same time from the EDonkey2000-Netzwerk and the Overnet, is thus a hybrid as the official eDonkey2000-Client.
