Lycos Europe (Prime standard: LCY/Nouveau 5770) with seat in is the operator of a European Internet portal, which consists of a network of Websites in nine languages. The portal offers a combination of search function, communication services, contents Channels, Internet entrance, Homepagebuilding and on-line Communitys. The enterprise is represented in the countries Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Spain and Switzerland.

Lycos offers among other things the free Webhosting service to Tripod, which exhibits however some restrictions, like e.g. advertisement or only a MySQL data base with reduced rights. The word "“lycos"” comes from the Greek one and means wolf. The enterprise name is led away from the scientific name of the wolf spiders (Lycosidae), as allusion to the designation Spider (spider) for Webcrawler. The name could be understood also loud-pictorial: "“Like US"” (English "“likes us! to be stressed"”) as request or "“as we"” around
