Lucene is a open SOURCE Java library for producing and scanning indices.

It is part of the Apache software of Foundation project and responsible by Doug Cutting is developed.

With the help of this platform-independent library within a short time full text searches for arbitrary contents can be produced.

The library consists of two main parts:

1. A component produces the index, whereby this arbitrary, but defined documents are added.
2. A Query engine scans this index.

Apart from these fundamental characteristics Lucene has a rich selection of additional functions and Tools, which are developed further actively and extensively by the open SOURCE Community.

Lucene can be used by the high Performanz and scaling barness for arbitrary project sizes and requirements.

• The development environment Eclipse uses Lucene with the search by the auxiliary function, which contains several thousand sides text.
• CoreMedia, a manufacturer of standard software for content management systems (CMS) and digitally Rights management (DRM), provides Lucene up to the version 4.2 from CoreMedia CMS as reference solution to the search. • Beagle uses a translation from Lucene to C#, which DotLucene is called, as Indexer.
• Nutch is a complete search machine, which Lucene uses.
