Last.fm is a web page and an Internet radio ("“personalised on-line radio station"”), which were developed, in order to make for users new music well-known. It is a former sister side of Audioscrobbler, with which it divided in former times a music data base. Music publishing houses and musicians are encouraged to give Last.fm licenses for playing their music since this, at least in the theory, would increase their CD sales. Last.fm has at present over 100.000 pieces for its Internet radio available.
Last.fm was fused on 9 August 2005 with Audioscrobbler and contains thus also its functions like for example a data base editor, simple navigation to linked profiles (for example friends and so-called musical neighbours) and extended Charts. These are based on the principle of the Audioscrobblers and store all music pieces in a data base, played on the PC. With musical neighbours it concerns persons which a similar music taste possesses itself. The data base calculates Schnittmengen by the interpreters of the songs within the announced circle of acquaintances. Voices many interpreters with another person this musical neighbour is called.
Last.fm Streams can be called up in the MP3-Format with 128 kbit/s with a Samplingrate by 44,1 kHz.
