my two cents is just an idiom originating from the English, which means as much as my insignificant opinion. Differently than the abbreviation IMHO, which is used in the middle in the text, she often is under the contributions in (increasingly also German) Internet forums and in the Usenet.

The original idiom reads My Two cents Worth (my insignificant opinion) and originates from the start time of the Internets. The transmission of a short text message by modem caused telephone costs at a value of 0,02$.

Out this developed then the equivalent expressions just my two cents and/or just my 2 cents.

Further occurrence

• In the US TV serial the Simpsons is "“My 2 cents"” the column of the newscaster Kent breaking into man.

• In German occasionally also only my 4 Pfennig one writes. This is on the one hand an allusion on the earlier US Dollar D-mark rate of exchange of approx. 2:1, on the other hand can it than Anglizismen refusal of the writer be understood. Likewise occasionally one uses only my 0.02 EUR.
