Joomla! an open SOURCE Web content management system (WCMS) is which from the open SOURCE project Mambo came out. After substantial differences with the Australian company Miro, who possessed the rights of the use of a name at Mambo, said good-bye the Mambo developers of this project. In order to be able to develop the system further nevertheless, the code of Mambo 4.5.2.3 in Joomla became! taken over and then to 1,0 (stable) develops further.

Joomla! been based on the server-lateral script language PHP, which stands just like the used data base MySQL under an open SOURCE license and is free of charge available. Joomla is simple to configure and efficiently.

The name Joomla! (Sound rewriting) Jumla comes "“from the Suaheli language of the word "„, which could be translated as "„the whole "“or also "„as a whole "“- and as stress of the developer community (Community) was selected.

Version 1.0.x

• On 19 September 2005 the version 1.0.0 was freely given. Characteristics are:
  • Clearing of errors and safety holes
  • Support of MySQL 4.1
  • GUI improvement of the development Tools
• On 15 January 2006 the version 1.0.7 was published, it concerns thereby further safety release.
• On 26 February 2006 the version 1.0.8 was published. 37 corrections were implemented to security and more than 70 general nose fixed.

Joomla user Groups (JUGs)

The so-called JUGs is local groups of Joomla users and - developers, who itself regularly together-found, in order to exchange information about Joomla, projects to plan (e.g. Workshops) and naturally, in order know each other to learn and thus the social component of open SOURCE software to maintain. JUGs gives it so far in the cities to Berlin, Hamburg and Nuremberg.
