FOAF (Friend OF A Friend) is a project for the machine-readable modelling of social networks. Heart of the project is a RDF pattern, which defines classes and characteristics, which can be used into XML based RDF document. Sense and purpose are that in a FOAF document data concerning a person are gathered (among other things name, age, sex, E-Mail address, address of the private and vocational Website, Web log address, ICQ /Jabber /AIM IDs, occupation etc.) and the person well-known humans to be called. As soon as several persons publish these FOAF documents, e.g. in the WWW, the FOAF documents can refer one on the other. A software can evaluate these FOAF documents, which analyze and e.g. visualize social relations.
