FlexWiki is a open SOURCE Wiki of Microsoft, which were developed mostly by David Ornstein in the context of the Shared SOURCE initiative.
The Wiki engine stands under the Common Public License of IBM. FlexWiki uses the.NET technology and has an inserted script language named WikiTalk. WikiTalk is based on the programming language Smalltalk, therefore the name. It is a simple object-oriented programming language, which permits the users to add dynamic behavior to Wiki sides.
After the Windows Installer XML (WiX) and the Windows Template LIBRARY (WTL) was FlexWiki the third Microsoft project, which was spread over SourceForge. The source text was published in September 2004.
Although many Wiki systems use a data base, in order to store their sides, the development of FlexWiki began with a storage which is based on text files. This decreased the administrative expenditure to operate an Wiki operational readiness level made it however difficult to impossible to scale such a system. With the version v1.8.01653 it became however possible to store and such a Wiki up to the order of magnitude of a server farm scale contents of an FlexWiki operational readiness level in a SQL server data base. Original text file storage is still available and is also preset.
