Excite is Internet portal with integrated search machine.

It belonged to the most well-known sides of the Internets and was together with Yahoo! and Netscape one of the pioneers "„dotcoms "“the 90's.

History

Excite was created 1994 as Architext of Marks Van Haren, Ryan McIntyre, Ben Lutch, Joe Kraus, Graham Spencer and Martin Reinfried (with the exception of Kraus's all computer student in Stanford) with starting capital of $4000. 1995 went the side on-line. 1996 bought the company the search machines Magellan and WebCrawler. 1999 fused the company with the high speed Internet service @Home.com and called themselves vortan Excite@Home. For $780 million they bought the greeting map company Blue Mountain kind. By the Dotcom blister in March 2000 the company lost extenziel at value and had already 2001 money scarcity.

In March 2004 the company was transferred by Ask.com. Excite is momentary in the possession of IAC search & Media.
