Eternal September (also: September, that never ended or endless September, to English Eternal Septembers, the Septembers that more never ended and/or endless Septembers) is Usenet jargon for the period starting from September 1993.Hinter of the use of these terms stands the opinion that the level of the discussions and the general behavior in groups of Usenet decreases 1993 Usenet participants new because of the constant river for September strongly.

Usenet became as discussion medium between universities to create. In September new students, who knew first nothing about usual behaviors and the netiquette, got each year entrance to the Usenet. September represented thus the period of the yearly, which brought the largest number to beginners into the medium Usenet. After some time, usually for the end of respective September, the beginners learned generally to adapt.

In September 1993 the large net Provider AOL made for the first time its customer available access to Usenet. From the view many old-established Usenet participant was substantially less these new acquisitions able to acquire itself the customs than the Erstsemester. This was on the one hand because of the fact that AOL did not clear its customers up over the customs. In addition newsgroup for AOL customers looked like a further AOL service. Not least it was however the almost number of new participants. The old-established users were therefore directly overtaxed to lead the usual discussions with all beginners.

Since at that time the dramatic increase of the popularity of the Internets led to a constant river new user. Therefore - from view of the Vor-1993-User - normal supply of September at beginners never ended and it was soon from the September, which would never end, the speech.

As Hommage to this term some newsreader in a the position is to indicate the current date as a function of 1 September 1993. So then about 8 November is 2004 4086 of September 1993.

On 25 January 2005 AOL announced to offer shortly no own new server more for its customers allegedly because of interest lacking. Thus would be then also symbolically regards eternal September terminated.
