A error page is a web page, which is indicated, if one clicks for example on a dead one left in the Internet. Most Browser shows thereby the side delivered by the Web server, an exception is to the Internet Explorer by Microsoft, which instead its own side indicates, what the error tracing every now and then clearly difficult more difficult. Locally stored error pages (.htaccess file) are indicated by the Internet Explorer only if they are larger than 512 bytes.

Error pages are usually categorized on the basis HTTP status codes. The most frequent and therefore most well-known error codes are not found 404 "“"” and to 500 "“internal server error"”. The status codes starting from 400 concern Client errors with error in the inquiry, the status codes starting from 500 server errors with apparently valid inquiries, which the server cannot answer however.

HTTP status code

Frequent error messages into English and German:

• 4xx: Client error
  • 400 bath Request, incorrect one inquiry, invalid requirement; incorrect syntax or unknown indications in the inquiry
  • 401 Unauthorized, not authorized, to access refuses; usually password-protected, Login
  • 403 Forbidden, prohibition, inadmissible; Access for the computer of the user closed
  • 404 emergency Found, not found; Document far away, shifted or renamed
• 5xx: Server error
  • 500 Internal server error, internal error, internal server error; e.g. Malfunctioning of a cgi script, process crash, resources bottleneck
  • 501 emergency Implemented, does not implement; necessary functionality or condition with the server missing
  • 502 bath gateway, gateway error; invalid answer another servers with gateway or Proxybetrieb
  • 503 service Unavailable, temporarily not available; Server overloads, failed or in maintenance
