EBICS is an abbreviation for electronics Banking Internet Communication standard. The acronym designates a new standard for the transmission of exchange data over Internet, multi-negotiable in Germany. EBICS replaces the past standard BCS FTAM, for which there is still no Internet minutes at present after a transition period.
The EBICS standard was developed by the ZKA and taken up to 1 January 2006 to the telecommunications agreement. Starting from 1 January 2008 the bank-lateral obligation exists for the support of EBICS.
The standard is present both in German and in an English translation by the ZKA.
Since hope exists the fact that the standard develops medium-term to a European-wide standard was created with the prominent "E" of the acronym the possibility of changing the designation once in European Banking Internet Communication standard.
