The long-term preservation of electronic publication is due to the fast development and evaporability of storage media and software a large problem. In the Gegensatzzu printed media and Mikroform possess digital storage media into Regelnur a limited durability from approximately to 50 years. But also archiving that data realizable by that-regular overacting on new data media guarantees still no long-term availability. While described paper is several 100 to 1000 years readable also, an electronic Publikationschon can be usable after 10 years no longer, since necessary Computersystemeund of data formats became outdated. A substantial task long-term-preservation-electronic publications is therefore the conversion into new Datenformateund the emulation of outdated computer systems. Thereby open, medium-neutral data formats are helpful such as XML.
For the collection and archiving of electronic publications document servers are developed. In the context of its Sammelauftrages the German library is also anxious to collect and receive for future generations electronic publications.
