The federation of the German Internet economy, eco registered association was created on 26 June 1995 in Bonn. The abbreviation eco stands thereby for "“electronics Commerce forum"”. The federation understands itself as protection of interests of the German Internet industry and to the goal sat down of advancing the commercial use of the Internet.

Among (conditions December 2005) the approximately 300 member enterprises Internet Provider (ISPs) rank service, Application service Provider (ASPs), carrier, hardware and software producer, contents supplier and many different.

Among other things operates eco with the Decix (German Commercial Internet Exchange) in Frankfurt/Main the largest German Internet exchange knot.

Seat of the eco office is Cologne, besides the federation maintains an office in Berlin. Eco is initial member of the European roof federation of the Internet Provider, EuroISPA, in Brussels.

Chairman of the board of eco is Michael Rotert, managing director of the federation Harald Summa.
