E-Cards are electronic postcards.

Under "“"” ecard in Austria recently also the electronic health map is understood.

The term is derived on the one hand from the English words "“electronics"” and "“Postcard"” and on the other hand, similarly as E-Mail, E-Commerce or E-Business in the course "“E-fizierung"” was generated.

Technology

Web pages, which offer electronic postcards, colloquially also to greeting maps mentioned, make typically a selection available of different motives, which are to correspond to the virtual illustrated page. In a form for Web one registers then the own E-Mail address and those of the receiver, as well as a personal message to the addressee. This receives then an automatically generated E-Mail, which contains usually a left.

If the receiver of the E-Mail calls the left, it both the selected picture and the message of the sender are shown. Frequently it has the possibility of answering a postcard directly by clicking a Buttons.

Postcards also animated are partly offered, which are based on the Flash technology. Other sides use Java.

Quite

E-Cards are guessed/advised in the election campaign 2002 in disrepute, when the resident of Munich attorney baron von Gravenreuth several parties, among them the Greens, SPD and republican, which took FDP and the DVU up on omission of the co-operation at the forwarding of unwanted advertising enamels and so that meant the E-Mail produced for a E-Card. The judgements caused first lack of understanding, which became warnings and omission orders as chicanery of the lawyer seen.

Actually however the E-Card contains inevitably of advertisement for the operator side. The operator of the E-Card-side is thus beneficiary of the dispatched Mail, since its number of visitors rises, which is regarded in the Internet frequently as measure for the popularity of a side. Besides the visitor of the side gets additional own or foreign advertisement on the web page to see.

E-Card-sides could be used of Spammern also outstanding as an anonymization assistance for the dispatch of their advertising garbage.

In the consequence numerous web pages implemented meanwhile complex procedures for the Nutzerauthentifizierung, in order to prevent Spam in such a way. The decisions entailed a large juridical insecurity with the offerers of E-Cards.
