Dovecot is an open SOURCE E-Mail server, which supports minutes IMAP and POP3. It is operated under Unix derivatives and Linux. The first version came out in July 2002.

The outstanding feature with programming is put on security. The server can deal with the formats maildir and mbox and is completely compatible in addition to the Courier server and UW-IMAP.

Dovecot supports the among other things following characteristics:

  • IMAP4rev1
  • THREAD and SORT extension
  • TLS/SSL
  • IPv6
