Members of the Discogs Community can administer their private music collection in one "Collection "and "Wantlist ". Besides one can buy and sell clay/tone carrier (release) since at the end of of 2005 also. Discogs appears here not as a dealer, but only as a mediator, similarly as eBay. If a user possesses the releases, which are not yet in the data base, it can add these according to certain formatting rules. All entries (tender) and changes (updates) are examined before the conversion in the data base in a Review process moderators select by freiwilligen, and rejected then either accepted (accepted) or with reason (rejected). By this system of the presentation and the constantly continuing process at improvements and corrections Discogs attains a high degree at correctness and detailingness and can thus from the multiplicity of other music data bases distinguish itself.
