Direct Client ton Client (DCC) is wide-spread minutes, which are used by many IRC Clients. Normally messages are transferred exclusively over the IRC server to other Clients. By DCC the IRC Clients exchanges its IP addresses and can so a direct connection among themselves develop. This is used usually if files are exchanged or one liked to lead a faster and hear-safer maintenance with another user.
DCC connections can be introduced in two different kinds:
- The most common method consists of the introduction of a DCC meeting with CTCP. An CTCP inquiry is sent thereby by a user over the IRC network to another.
- Another way to introduce a DCC meeting is the direct connection of a Clients to a DCC server. In the case of use of this method the two parties do not even have to be connected to an IRC network.
DCC contains the following services:
- CHAT: Permits the users, over a DCC connection to converse with one another (chatten). The data traffic runs thereby directly between the two users and not over another server (e.g. the IRC network).
- SEND: Permits a user to send another files (direct).
- FSERVE: DCC fserve is a service of a DCC server, which permits it a user to indicate and/or download a list of available files. The procedure is comparable with a text-based Ftp Client. (See also for this XDCC.)
Many IRC Clients (e.g. XChat or mIRC) contain already DCC and thus also all possibilities, which DCC brings with itself.
