The Digerati are the elite of the computer industry and on-line Communities. The word is (English) a Kompositum from "“digitally"” and "“literati"”, and designation thus (in a general manner) the "“digitally well-being-well read"” or "“digital elite"”. The word resembles the likewise from the net jargon coming glitterati (, more glitter + literati). Famous Digerati personalities are nearly throughout technicians, writers and Blogger, journalists or scientists.

The word is used on different ways and can have these meanings among other things:

• Opinion leaders, their texts a digital technology stress and those Internet,
• Humans, who work as famousnesses in the silicone Valley, and whom also and straight during the DOT Com Boomzeit admits became,
• Those, which are influential in the digital world and exercise influence

The first denomination and coinage of the word happened 1992 in the USENET, and referred to an article of George Gilder in the Upside magazine. Other sources maintain, the term of the New York Time and its editor Tim Race were invented.
