A dedicated server (English dedicated server) is a server, which is turned off only for an activity (dedicated service) or only is assigned to one customer (dedicated more customer).

Instead of letting several services on a server run, its own dedicated server is dedicated to each service.

Operational area

• Operating systems, which do not run with several services stably.
• Services, which cannot be operated together on a server.

Example: an old, a current and a development version of a Web server, which all are to run on the same haven.

A customer assigned (dedicated tons more customer)

In the Webhosting industry the term of the dedicated server is used frequently for renting server offers. The Provider rents a virtual server or a complete physical server (hardware) inclusive parking bay, air conditioning and power supply. Some offerers call dedicated servers, on which the customer possesses root-right, root servers (see however in addition root servers in the DNS).

Operational area

Dedicated servers are used, if:

• the offered services for a Shared server are too resources hungry.
• the enterprise of certain server services the working reliability of other Shared servers on the computer endangers.
• the customer the Hoster (ISP) no view of its data to give wants.
• the server special safeguards requires.
• the customer an operating system or a software to use wants, which of the Provider is not supported.
