COUSIN (Bielefeld Academic Search Engine) is a multidiscipline search machine of the University of Bielefeld for scientific sources of Internet, which was developed by the university library Bielefeld based on the technology of the Norwegian company NEARLY search & transfer. The university library Bielefeld took COUSIN 2004 in enterprise, took place in August 2005 the conception of an improved version.
A goal is it to combine the high relevance of the sources from data bases and scientific web pages with the simplicity of the operation of a search machine. COUSIN scans different digital collections (document servers of universities, Preprint server, server of Retrodigitalisaten, project good mountain etc.), which are relevant for the research. The indexed documents are mostly freely in the full text accessible. At present are seized over 2,7 million documents from 200 sources (conditions: 25. April 2006).
The result announcement in COUSIN differs from the search machine standard by a differentiated announcement from meta data, if such in the document available. Besides possibilities for the assortment and for the search refinement, on meta data level are offered to the hit list after authors and classification and after formal aspects such as document format.
