CORE (COuncil OF REgistrars) is international "„emergency for profit "“(not profit-oriented) a combination of international companies under Swiss law.

CORE was created in October 1997. The philosophy was at that time monopolyistic it, that from network Solutions Inc. administered Internet Domainnamen system on internationally broad feet to place. The member firms, also Registrare mentioned, should register Domainnamen for the final customers. First sieves new Top level Domains should to be created: .arts, .firm, .info, .nom, .rec, .sh OI and .web. Subsequently, also the administration of the generic Top level Domains .com, .net and .org already existing should be taken over.

The plans were first retarded, brought by resistance of the American government completely later to the failure. It came to the establishment under private law organized of the ICANN, which are world-wide responsible instead of CORE in autonomy for Domainnamen.

CORE works since then double-railed:

On the one hand CORE Registrar is registered and for their members Domainnamen with the responsible in each case Registries. The members offer this Domains then to the final customers and Resellern. To the TLDs, under which with CORE Domains can be registered, both GTLDs (.com, .net, .org, .info, .us, .biz, .name and .coop) belong, and ccTLDs (.us, .cn, .tw)

On the other hand CORE is Registry operator for Top level Domains. In addition count: .aero (aircraft industry), .museum, .cat (katalonischer culture area) as well as the future Telefondomain.
