Contenido is an open SOURCE Web content management system. The open SOURCE project was initiated in the year 2000 by four for business the AG and is developed further from this as well as further programmers the Contenido Community. The software, which is based on PHP and MySQL, stands under the GNU general Public License and is license free both for the private, and for the commercial range.

Use

The training period for administrators and developers is small, presupposes however knowledge in PHP. For final users and editors training is very simple and intuitive.

Support carried out by the user municipality (forums, mailing list), there are free developers. Some agencies specialized also to provide web pages in Contenido.

Operation

Contenido is steered on a Web server with a Webbrowser. For the operation no auxiliary software is necessary with the editor. The administration (the so-called baking) is the part of Contenido, visible in the Webbrowser, in which contents are provided and worked on. An Rich text editor, in that contents as in a text processing (e.g. Word) to be formatted can to settle permitted also users without HTML knowledge editorial work. A special feature offers Contenido, since it makes possible the treatment also directly over the Internet appearance (the so-called front-end, thus the part of the side visible for the visitor).

Function mode

Contenido offers a clear separation from layout, functionality and contents. A so-called layout (called in other content management systems Templates) is nothing else as HTML basic structure, in which in certain places substitute symbol (so-called containers) are defined. A module is a piece PHP code, which is placed over the Template into the containers.

Contenido organizes all articles in a tree structure (also category tree called). The editor assigns either the category or the article a Template and can work on, if this was planned in the modules, the content.

Since modules can contain arbitrary PHP code in Contenido, the development of own modules is very simple. In modules if so-called CMS types are used, then Contenido becomes active as CMS and worries about the announcement, treatment and storage of contents.

Development

Up-to-date the CMS in the version 4.6.8 is present. The main development and the central will steer from Four for Businesses led and supervised. Modifications are at any time possible, the extensions and changes transfer the enterprise, also to co-operation with the large developer municipality. In addition the forum innovations are discussed and presented, users can deliver feature Requests for coming versions.
