The Compact Disc DATA cousin (abbreviation CDDB) is a data base with information over on the market audio CDs present (interpreter, title, TRACK lengths, music category), which can be called up over Internet. Turned around it the users also possible to enter CD data not seized yet into the data base. These information can be called up with many PC music coding and - playing programs or be seen directly over the CDDB web page.

CDDB was developed 1995 by Ti Kan and Steve Scherf, 1998 created it the company of the same name. CDDB was transferred by Escient and renamed to Gracenote. Gracenote holds since then the rights at the data base.

A change of the license conditions and the introduction of changed minutes not possibly made the data base access for free software. As alternative thereupon the freedb data base and the MusicBrainz project based.
