The MP3-Musikmagazin clay/tone pion is an Internet magazine, which links legally available music files arranged in the MP3-Format, according to different style directions. The emphasis is with current Popmusik, electronics and Indie. Clay/tone pion refers exclusively to legal sources of Internet, to a large extent acts it with the music files around demo TRACKs or Remixes, which by artists or music labels were released to the free Download.
Clay/tone pion was created 1999 in Cologne by the music journalist Udo Raaf and went in January 2000 on-line. Since 2001 the seat is in Berlin. Beside the founder at present seven editors (under it Janko and ten free authors for clay/tone pion are active.
The concept to make pieces available free of charge and completely already successful artist as advertising measure to the Download was straight at the beginning of in Germany not yet far spread, there the music industry (at times of the Napster controversy) the DRM not protected MP3-Standard as "“Piratenformat"” rejected. Clay/tone pion was able to persuade however several well-known labels to the release from Songs to. In the meantime also some selected not-commercial Netlabels are introduced.
2001 were created a English-language folder named Tonespy in London; the project was however again stopped meanwhile temporarily. The German Website is however further popular, at the end of of 2004 had it according to own data of 250,000 visitors per month.
The German web page was nominated in the summer 2005 for the Grimme on-line Award. In September 2005 the offer was arranged new and extended by a music Community as well as a MP3 Shop.
