  • 1969 - The network Working Group is created and provides first descriptions of minutes; the first four knots of the ARPANET go into enterprise.
  • 1971 - ARPANET possesses 15 knots. Telnet and ftp are developed.
  • 1972 - Ray Tomlinson develops the first E-Mail program.
  • 1973 - The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is published.
  • 1977 - ARPANET possesses 111 knots.
  • 1982 - The later EUnet project of the group of computer science computer operations (IRB) (specialist area computer science, University of Dortmund) under the direction of Dr. Rudolf Peter offers first network services in Germany on (see also message for later privatisation).
  • 1983 - ARPANET has 400 attached computers.
  • 1984 - The Domain Name System (DNS) is developed. ARPANET has 1,000 attached computers.
  • 2. August 1984 - In Karlsruhe the first German E-Mail will receive.
  • November 1986 - Of the IANA delegated "“DE-NIC"” is furnished as organization of the administration at the computing centre of the University of Dortmund. Eunet registers with "“university dortmund.de"” the first "“de"” Domain.
  • 1987 - The term "“Internet"” develops, it is now 27,000 computers interlaced.
  • March 1989 - Tim Berners Lee writes the first version of its PAPER "“information management: A Proposal"”, the first draft for the development of the World Wide Web. See also to "“A Little History OF the World Wide Web"”.
  • At the beginning of of 1989 - First German Internet connections are taken in enterprise (project EUnet, University of Dortmund, Dr. Rudolf Peter; Working group Xlink, Professor Zorn, Karlsruhe); for details see "“Internet in Germany"”.
  • 1990 - Military ARPANET is taken except enterprise.
  • November 1990 - Tim Berners Lee and Robert Cailliau publish the concept for a world-wide hypertext project.
  • 1991 - The WWW is used in the European nuclear research activity laboratory CERN.
  • December 1992 - The former research project EUnet, network outrider in Germany, is denationalized. With the EUnet Germany GmbH "“Connecting Europe develops since 1982"” the first commercial Internet Provider Germany in Dortmund under the Slogan. EUnet is sold later at UUnet.
  • December 1992 - The Mosaic Browser is developed of the NCSA
  • 1993 - Www software is used outside of the CERN.
  • May 1993 - The group of computer science computer operations (IRB) (specialist area computer science, University of Dortmund) furnishes one of the first public Web servers in Germany with their Web appearance. Germany far there are less than 15 Web servers at this time.
  • 1993 - One year after EUnet is denationalized also Xlink. Thereby the second Internet Provider in Germany develops. (See "“Internet in Germany"”.)
  • August 1993 - The interest group DENIC is created as central Registrar for.de domains.
  • October 1993 - There are approx. 500 Web servers world-wide.
  • 1994 - The number of the commercial users of the Internet exceeds for the first time those of the scientific users. There is approx. 3 million Internet computer.
  • 1997 - The project Abilene for a Internet2 is started.
  • October 1998 - The Internet corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is created.
  • October 1999 - The einmillionste.de domain is registered.
  • 1. March 2004 - The registration of .de and.ch domains with umlauts and special characters becomes certified.
  • 29. April 2005 - The Toplevel domain .eu is registered after over five years preparation time into the DNS Rootzone
