The choice O Mat is one of the federal center for political education (bpb) claimant Web operational readiness level for interactive on-line choice information. Additionally the choice O Mat is available since the European choice 2004 also as downloadable off-line software and since the election to the Bundestag 2005 as Handy and Palm version.

The Tool is based on "„the StemWijzer "“from the Netherlands (Instituut voor Publiek EN Politiek, IPP). Since then the choice assistance is used in the apron by elections on all political levels. In Germany the federal center for political education placed to the Choice O Mat for the first time to the election to the Bundestag 2002 on-line, it followed the election to the Bundestag 2005, as well as a European choice and meanwhile 8 election of the federal parliament versions.

The program offers the possibility of receiving in the Internet a decision making aid for European, Bundestag or elections of the federal parliament. One takes position to about 30 political theses. These statements are then compared with the authorized answers of different parties. As evaluation one receives a diagram, which shows one, with which party one agrees as strong. A possible weighting of individual answers as well as a detailed comparison of the own answers with the statements of the appropriate parties are further components of the program.

The choice O Mat was used since 2002 about 15 million time. However to the election to the Bundestag it was played over 5 million time. The choice O Mat is available since February 2006 again for the elections of the federal parliament Baden-Wuerttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxonia-Anhalt.

The choice O Mat considers only larger parties. Critics mean, here its weakness lies in the sense of the democracy. With the election to the Bundestag 2005 there is CDU, CSU, FDP, the GREENS, left wing party and SPD. This restriction represents a disadvantage for small parties, since users of the choice O Mat are made attentive not on possible agreements with the goals of such parties. The federal center for political education justifies the limited selection of the parties in the FAQ of the choice O Mat with "“the statistic distinction and the management of the Tools"” and calls two criteria for the admission: A party must be represented already in the parliament or come with a Sundays question before the choice on at least 3 per cent.
