Channelmodes are used in the Internet Relay Chat to specify the characteristics from Channels to.

Syntax of Channelmodes

Channelmodes are set, changed or indicated in principle by the MODE command. Nearly all modes can be thereby either switched on or switched off.

By call of the MODE command without parameters it is to be indicated possible the modes set at present: <nowiki>MODE #foo: irc.spaceboyz.net 324 nod #foo +snt: irc.spaceboyz.net 329 nod #foo 1111111111 </nowiki> (the 1111111111 is here the creation time of the Channels in Unixzeit)

If the MODE command with parameters is used, then the modes either a plus sign (+) or a minus sign (-) is placed in front, in order to indicate the desired operation: <nowiki>MODE #foo +i</nowiki>

Several modes can be lined up as it are simply one behind the other written. Gradually same pluses/minus signs know thereby omitted werden.<nowiki> MODE #foo - si+p t </nowiki>

Mode parameter

If a mode requires parameters, then these are added at the end and separated if necessary by blanks: <nowiki> MODE #foo +kil key 123 </nowiki>

For removing such a mode normally only the mode with placed in front must - to be indicated. Individual modes and can deviate however of it, in particular +k on some servers.

Modes the host MASKs as parameters expect (+b, +e, +I) lead a list with masks, to which added in each case (+) or far away (-) will can. The list can be called up as the mode alone and without parameters is indicated: <nowiki> MODE #foo b: irc.spaceboyz.net 367 nod #foo nod! user@host nod 1111111112: irc.spaceboyz.net 368 nod #foo: End to OF Channel Ban cunning </nowiki>
