Carrier Detect (English "“carrier recognized"”) designates (electrical) a signal, which (e.g. a computer attached by a modem to) signals that a connection was developed.

The expression agitates from (for example in case of a modem) the applied transmission technique. Here on a carrier frequency (carrier) the utilizable data are up-modulated (as with the radio).
