Calamaris is an analyzer for log files, which are provided by Internet pro XY servers. This evaluation is needed with the enterprise of such servers, in order arising loads to measure and their causes to analyze be able.

Evaluation of pro XY log files

That access to Internet is often made by an Internet pro XY server with a Internet service Provider. This (pro XY) server logs all accesses in a log file.

Dependent on the registration at the respective server, is located to users, the time and the URL of the Login and the Logout in this log file among other things the IP address of the Clients or the Login as well as further data.

By the very large resulting quantity of the contained data a manual evaluation is not possible by view, therefore one consults for it special programs, which accomplish that automatically. Since each software producer uses his own format for log files, the analyzer must exhibit a certain flexibility, in order to be able to deal with the different formats. One of these programs is Calamaris.

Calamaris was written in Perl, is subject the GPL and is able to analyze log files of the following products:

Calamaris statistics

The statistics resulting from the Calamaris analysis give information over extent of utilization, maximum values and efficiency the pro XY server. Calamaris is able to represent the statistics as Plaintext (plain language) or as HTML report. The following statistics are provided:

• Peak load report
• Request method report (ICP_QUERY, GET, HEAD,"…)
• Status report on coming in UDP Requests
• Status report on coming in TCP Requests
• Status report on outgoing connections
• Status report for Neighbor Caches
• Report over inquired Second or Third level Domains
• Report on inquired Top level Domains
• Minutes report (HTTP, Gopher, ftp,"…)
• Report over inquired of type of content
• Report on inquired file Extensionen
• Report on coming in UDP inquiries by host
• Report on coming in TCP inquiries by host
• Report on the distribution of the inquired objects after size
• Report on the performance in defined time steps
• Report on the distribution of the running times.
• Report on the distribution of the HTTP error codes.
• Extended report on the file Extensionen.
