Audioscrobbler was a Internet-based network service, with which one could to be able to be provided after free registration its individual music profile. Audioscrobbler registered all played pieces of a user via an extension in its music playing program. So Audioscrobbler could recommend other user groups, which came its music taste close to the user.
Further it was possible to search over the Audioscrobbler Website user the one similar music taste as one has and with them to exchange itself.
For many music playing programs like for example Winamp or iTunes extensions existed, in order to be able to use the service comfortably, some programs as for example amaroK supported Audioscrobbler as standard equipment. amaroK Audioscrobbler used also to recommend to the users other artists and pieces who could possibly please them.
The moreover one exists the service Last.FM, which the user made possible to hear a radio program which plays either the songs, those the user with its playing program heard it (useful e.g. if this does not have its audio data available) or songs, which hear users with a similar music taste.
A fusion of the two services took place on 9 August 2005. The functions of Audioscrobbler were integrated thereby in Last.FM.
