ANts P2P is a file sharing software, which the file exchange over a special Routingsystem anonymizates.

Apart from the "“normal"” file exchange ANts P2P offers also the possibility of offering and/or of calling web pages up anonymous. This functions only over servers, which one configures for the use with ANts P2P. Ants cannot be used thus as "“Out Proxy"”, in order to visit sides from the WWW anonymous. For this one should e.g. GATE use.

ANts was published for the first time 2004 and stands under the GPL. Beside i2phex and was it one the first anonymous P2P-Clients, which could be easily installed and served also by inexperienced users. By programming in Java the program is platform independent. German language support is ordered. Frequently updates are published.

The Datentransfer runs over indirect connections: Offerers and receivers of a file do not hold a direct connection with one another, but the connection is developed over several subnodes (Proxys), so that neither the receiver knows, of which knot it downloads, still the transmitter, at whom it conveys the file. Each knot knows only the IP addresses of some neighbour knots.

The transferred files are coded between transmitters and receivers with the AES procedure, so that no Proxy can along-read the data - in contrast about too, with which only between the individual Proxys are coded. (There to the key exchange of the Diffie Hellman is theoretically susceptible this is used to an one in The Middle attack.)
