Active server Pages (ASP) is one of Microsoft developed SSI Nachfolgetechnologie, which produces web pages with employment of a script language such as VBScript or JScript server-laterally. ASP was originally interpreted only by the Web server Internet information services (IIS). Meanwhile there is also different postage run gene for the Apache Web servers. ASP was published in the year 1996. One can place this technology of their possibilities regarding Web programming on a stage with PHP, PerlScript, CFM and Perl. In Java there are the possibilities of the Servlets and servers Pages (JSP).

ASP is not no more developed further by Microsoft. The follow-up technology ASP.NET replaced ASP with release of the .NET Framework in the year 2002.

Nevertheless also today - despite the various advantages of ASP.NET - numerous small projects with ASP ("“Classic ASP"”) are still developed. One can convert complete projects with ASP also in a normal text editor efficiently, while with the successor the employment of a development environment is recommended not compellingly necessarily, but urgently.
